AVROM-YOKHANEN BARZILAI (b. March 5, 1879)
He was born in Kovel, Volhynia. He studied in a Russian government
school. He emigrated to the United
States in 1911, and from 1914 he was contributing to the Yiddish press in the
United States and Canada. He was a
regular contributor to Veg (Way) under the editorship of Reuben Brainin,
Keneder odler (Canadian eagle) in Montreal, Yudisher zhurnal
(Jewish journal) in Toronto, Dos yidishe vort (The Yiddish word) in
Winnipeg, Progres (Progress) in New York, and the humorous weekly Der
hamer (The hammer) in Montreal. He
also edited the weekly Keneder yid (Canadian Jew). Among his pen names: Iev (Job) and Dr. Ayzn
(Dr. Iron).
