SORE BIRNBOYM (SARA BIRNBAUM) (1910-1978)
She was born in Lodz, though from her early childhood year
she was living with her parents in Warsaw.
Her first published work appeared in 1928, a poem in Unzer hofenung
(Our hope), edited by Y. M. Vaysenberg (Weissenberg). She later published in: Folkstsaytung
(People’s newspaper), Vokhnshrift (Weekly writing), and Dos vort
(The word) in Warsaw; and Kinder-zhurnal (Children’s journal) in New
York. In 1937 she emigrated to
Argentina. There she published in Di
prese (The press), Yidishe tsaytung (Jewish newspaper), and Shpigl
(Mirror). Among her books: Zing ikh
mir (I sing to myself), poems (Buenos Aires, 1938), 56 pp.; Gezang un
shturem (Song and storm), poems (Buenos Aires, 1950), 94 pp.; Far zun oyfgang (Before sunrise),
poetry (Buenos Aires, 1962), 83 pp. She
was living in Buenos Aires where she died.
