MENDL (MISKE) BLUMENTAL (December 14, 1899-October 22,
1941)
He was born in Borshchov (Borshchiv), eastern Galicia. He graduated from high school in Stanislav
and university in Lemberg (philosophy and mathematics). He perfected his pedagogy in Warsaw. He taught in Jewish and Polish high schools
in Zamość and
Grodno. He served as vice-chairman of
the Zamość Jewish School Organization. Prior to WWII, he was a coworker, together
with Yitskhok Giterman and Dr. Emanuel Ringelblum, at “Tsekabe” [Central No-Interest
Loan Office]. He published articles in
the bulletins of Tsekabe as well as in Literarishe bleter (Literary leaves) in Warsaw. In the years 1939-1941, he directed the
statistical department of the Soviet school curriculum in Lutsk and Vilna. He participated in organizing help and
self-help during the German occupation.
He was murdered during the first German Aktion in Lutsk.
