ESTER RUBINSHTEYN (1882 [1885?]-1924)
She was
born in Shaki (Šakiai), Lithuania. She
was the wife of the Vilna rabbi, Yitskhok Rubinshteyn. She was extraordinarily knowledgeable of
Tanakh and Talmud. She earned
considerable merit for Hebrew education in Vilna. She was a member of the editorial board of
the Zionist daily newspaper Unzer fraynd
(Our friend) in Vilna. In her memory was
published Sefer zikaron leharabanit ester
rubinshteyn (Remembrance volume for Esther Rubinstein, the rabbi’s wife)
(Vilna, 1925), 88 pp., in Yiddish and Hebrew, edited by Shmuel-Leyb Tsitron. She died in Merano.
