G. KENIG (October 19, 1909-February 14, 1972)
The
pseudonym of Meylekh Gromb, he was a journalist, born in Warsaw. He attended religious primary school. He completed high school as an external
student. Due to political persecution,
he emigrated to Paris. Over the years
1939-1945, he was held in German captivity.
His first published work appeared in Filologishe
shriftn (Philological writings) (Vilna: YIVO, 1929). He served as editor (1934-1939) of the
Parisian Communist daily newspaper Naye
prese (New press)—he was editor-in-chief, 1945-1972. He published in this newspaper long works of
literary criticism and reportage: “4 khadoshim in Palestine” (Four months in
Palestine) (March-July 1947); “Rayze-ayndrukn fun rumenye” (Travel impressions
from Romania) (September-October 1956); “Lenin in pariz” (Lenin in Paris)
(March-April 1970); and in Parizer
tsaytshrift (Parisian periodical) of 1962, “Froym kaganovski” (Froym
Kaganovski). He served as co-editor of In kamf far frayhayt (In the fight for
freedom) (Paris: Oyfsnay, 1948); Yizker-bukh
tsum ondenk fun 14 umgekumene parizer yidishe shrayber (Remembrance volume
to the memory of fourteen murdered Parisian Yiddish writers), with T. Spero (Paris: Oyfsnay, 1946).

and Ringvar. He died in Paris.
