CHRISTOPH GUSTAV CHRISTIAN


CHRISTOPH GUSTAV CHRISTIAN (d. 1735)
            This was the pseudonym of the convert Gottfried.  He published two missionary tracts in Yiddish: Yesod emunes yeshaye (Foundation of the faith in Jesus) (Berlin, 1719), which also includes the rules for reading and writing Yiddish; Di bekehrung yisroels (The conversion of Israel) (Schabach, 1922).  He also published a number of Yiddish-German textbooks, among them: Hebräisch und Teutsche Vocabula und Wörterbüchlein (Hebrew and Judeo-German vocabulary and dictionary) (Schwabach?, 1727); Jüdischer Dolmetscher oder Hebräisch un Teutsche Vocabula (Jewish interpreter or Hebrew and Judeo-German vocabulary) (Nuremburg, 1735), 83 pp.; Gottfried Paulus Theodor, Der Hebraisch-Teutsche Sprachmeister (Gottfried Paulus Theodor, the Hebrew-Judeo-German master of languages) (Tübingen, 1765).  He died in Nuremburg.
