SORE
KHAYKIN (b. 1926)
She was born in Minsk, Byelorussia,
to a father who was an engineer—he later worked in the administration of Birobidzhaner shtern (Birobidzhan
star). In 1946, she and her parents
moved to Birobidzhan, and for a time she was a manager of the Yiddish division
of the local library. She published
children’s poetry in Birobidzhaner shtern
and other Yiddish publications until the liquidation of Jewish culture in
Russia in 1948.
