HERMANN LEBERECHT STARCK (May 6, 1848-October 5, 1922)
He was
born in Berlin, a German Orientalist and theologian. Although the leader of the missionary Institutum
Judaicum, he spent his whole life fighting against anti-Semitism and assorted calumnies
against Jews. He published: Jüdisches Wörterbuch, mit besonderer
Berücksichtigung der gegenwärtig in Polen üblichen Ausdrücke (Yiddish dictionary,
with particular reference to the terms currently used in Poland) (Leipzig: Hinrichs’sche
Buchh., 1916), 204 pp. His
second work in the field of Jewish studies was
