AVROM-YOYSEF SHTIBL (Nisan [= March-April] 1885-1956)
He was
born in Zhorik (Żarki), Poland. He was a great
patron and publisher of Hebrew literature.
His “Shtibl Publishing House” published only one title in Yiddish: Micah
Joseph Berdichevsky, Yudishe ksovim fun a
vayten korev (Yiddish writings from a distant relative), 6 vols. (Berlin,
1923/1924). He wrote for the Warsaw
business publication Handls-tsaytung
(Business newspaper), as well as for Unzer
leben (Our life), Handls-velt
(Business world), and Leder un shukh
(Leather and shoes). He also wrote under
the pen names: A. Y. Miriamzon, A. Lvovitsh, A. Y. Iserzon, I. Y. Esterzon, Y.
Sandler, and A. Y. Goslavski. He died in
New York.
