SHIYE SHTENGEL

SHIYE SHTENGEL (b. October 29, 1917)

            He was born in Tishevits (Tyszowce), Poland.  He was convicted of Communist activities in Poland in 1935 and later spent time in Soviet prisons and concentration camps for “political crimes.”  In 1946 he returned to Poland and worked for Dos naye lebn (The new life).  From 1949 he was living in Israel.  He penned an autobiographical book entitled Problemen bay yidn in poyln (Problems of Jews in Poland) (Tel Aviv: Nay lebn, 1977), 346 pp.
