MEYER
HIBNER (ca. 1878-1926)
He was born in Nadvorne (Nadworna),
Galicia. He was one of the first
publishers, 1906-1907, of Yiddish books and magazines in Galicia. For many years he devoted himself to
collections of Yiddish theatrical texts, which he later published (1906-1907)
in Drohobitsh (Drohobycz) in a pocketbook format with a
great number of editions. He also
compiled the anthology Shire tsiyon
(Poems of Zion), a collection of Zion-related poetry in Yiddish, Hebrew, and
German (Vienna, 1909), 62 pp. He
published Yiddish poetry and sketches in: Yudishe
ilustrirte tsaytung (Jewish illustrated newspaper) (Cracow, 1908-1909); as
well as in Yudishes familyenblat
(Jewish family newspaper) (Nadvorne, 1910-1912), initially appearing weekly,
later monthly, which he edited it with Z. Haber. He was also the author of Geografye fun erets-yisroel (Geography
of the land of Israel) (Lemberg, 1920), 48 pp.
He died in Nadvorne.
