YOYSEF HESTERIN

YOYSEF HESTERIN (1886-1974)
            He was born in Polesia.  He was a former leader of the Labor Zionist movement in Winnipeg, Canada.  He was director of the Y.-L. Perets School in Winnipeg from 1915 to 1922 and a prominent community leader in the city.  He was editor of the weekly Dos idishe vort (The Jewish word) in Winnipeg—at first published in September 1910 and edited by S.-B. Goldshteyn with the title Keneder id (Canadian Jew), initially a weekly and later twice each week.  Hesterin made aliya to Israel long ago.  He died in Jerusalem.
