Y. HELER (JACOB J. HELLER) (b. 1890)
He was a union leader in New York. He published poems and notes in Naye post (New mail) and Gerekhtigkeyt (Justice) in New York. He was the author of Mayn yunyon, mayn lebn, gedanken un shtimungen fun a idishn yunyon
firer (My union, my life, thoughts and moods of a Jewish union leader) (New
York, 1940), 160 pp., including poetry, improvised letters to friends and to
union leaders, and feature pieces; Shoen
fun umet (Hours of gloom), poetry, published by the education committee of
Local 105 of the “International” [ILGWU] (New York, 1943), 52 pp. In the foreword to the former volume, he
wrote of himself that he was not a professional writer and that everything he
wrote was done in a great hurry and under extraordinary strain
