MOYSHE
HIRSH (1910-1931)
He was born in Sighetu Marmației, Transylvania, to Hassidic
parents. He studied in religious
elementary school and yeshivas. From his
earliest years he was an active leader and speaker for Mizrachi in Hungary. In 1919 he was living on a kibbutz to which
he had illegally set out for Israel. He
later worked as a farm laborer in Teodoresti, Bukovina. He composed Yiddish and Hebrew poetry, a
portion of which was published in Marmarosher bleter (Marmației
pages). He was also engaged with research
into the Yiddish language, especially of Carpathian Russian village Jews. His work Shprikhverter
fun mayn kant (Proverbs in my realm) remained in manuscript. He died in Suceava.
