OSHER KATSMAN (b. April 28, 1916)
He was
born in Barashi, Volhynia. He served as
a rabbi in Rudzhishok (Rûdiðkës), Vilna district. In 1941 he escaped to the United States. He worked as a rabbi in Cleveland, later in
Brooklyn. He wrote poetry, sketches, and
essays in Vilna’s Tsayt (Times), Dos yudishe togblat (The Jewish daily
newspaper), Dos vort (The word) in Vilna,
Morgn zhurnal (Morning journal) in
New York, Idishe velt (Jewish world)
in Cleveland, and Algemeyne zhurnal
(General journal) in New York, among others.
He was preparing for publication a volume of poems and stories. His pen names: Osher Mankats, A. Koyen, Der Beobakhter. He was last living in Brooklyn.
