ZIGMUND SHENKMAN (May 28, 1861[?]-September 18, 1932)
He was
an artist, born in Warsaw. His Jewish
name was Zaynvl. He was living in the
United States from 1887. He acted in
numerous Yiddish troupes in Europe and America.
He was one of the finest tenors on the Yiddish stage. He wrote the plays: Dos lebn in nyu-york, oder tsvey kets in eyn zak (Life in New York,
or two cats in one bag) and Der idyot,
oder di gloke (The idiot, or the bell)—both staged in New York. He used to sing his own songs in Yiddish
vaudeville houses. He died in New York.
