ESTER SHEKHTER


ESTER SHEKHTER (1867-March 21, 1955)
            He was born in Mezhibezh (Medzhybizh), Podolia.  She attended religious elementary school and later a Russian high school in Odessa.  In 1905 she moved to Winnipeg, Canada.  She was active there in local Jewish cultural life.  She wrote stories and current events articles in the Winnipeg weekly Der idisher kuryer (The Jewish courier), Dos yidishe vort (The Jewish word), and elsewhere.  In book form: Di geshikhte fun mayn lebn (The story of my life) (Winnipeg, 1951), 78 pp.  She died in Winnipeg.
