LIFKE SHEKHTER-VIDMAN (January 26, 1893-January 22, 1974)
She was
born in Zvinyetshke (Zvinyachka), Bukovina.
She was the mother of Mordkhe Schaechter. She attended public school and religious
elementary school. In 1906 she moved to
New York and worked in a sweatshop. From
1914 she lived in Vienna, Czernowitz, and Bucharest, and from 1950 she was back
in New York. She published a volume of
memoirs: Durkhgelebt a velt (Survived
a world) (New York, 1973), 286 pp. She
died in New York.
