MAX SHERMAN (February 2, 1878-December 18, 1936)
He was
born with the given name Menakhem in Vitebsk.
He was by trade a carpenter. In
1905 he emigrated to New York. From 1912
he lived in Portland and in 1923 settled in Los Angeles. He wrote poetry for Fraye arbeter-shtime (Free voice of labor) in New York and mostly
for Kalifornyer idishe shtime (Jewish
voice of California) in Los Angeles. He
was the author of Lider fun maks sherman
(Poetry of Max Sherman) (Los Angeles: Bukh-komitet, 1934), 141 pp. He died in Los Angeles.
