SIMELE SHNAYDER (SNEIDER)


SIMELE SHNAYDER (SNEIDER) (b. September 16, 1924)
            She was a poetess, born in Czernowitz.  She attended public school and a Jewish state high school.  From 1946 she was a teacher in the Bucharest Jewish community school, and from 1952 she performed in the Yiddish state theater in Jassy (Iași).  In 1963 she settled in Israel, where for four years she acted with the Habima theater.  He poetic debut was in 1940 in the wall newspaper of the Czernowitz state high school.  After a visit to the high school, Itsik Fefer and Dovid Hofshteyn took with them Shnayder’s poems from the wall newspaper and published them in Shtern (Star).  She also published in: Ikuf-bleter (IKUF pages) in Bucharest, Letste nayes (Latest news) in Tel Aviv, and elsewhere.  In book format: Lider (Poetry) (Bucharest: Literatur un kunst, 1957), 125 pp.
