HEYLVARG
He hailed from Odessa and lived in
Minsk, Kiev, and Kishinev. He was a
Zionist leader and orator. He authored
pamphlets on the theme of Ḥibat-tsiyon (Love of Zion, early
Zionism), among them: Di itstige tsayt
(The present time) (Kishinev, 1892), 32 pp.; An ernst vort tsu unzere yudishe tekhter (A serious word to our
Jewish daughters) (Kishinev, 1893), 48 pp., in which he agitated for the land
of Israel and for the importance of Jewish women and mothers in raising
children, particularly girls, in the nationalist and Zionist spirit.
