SHIYE
PULNER (1896-1942)
He was an ethnologist,
bibliographer, and researcher. Until
1934 he was a contributor to the central library and museum in Leningrad. Later, until the Nazi invasion of Russia, he
was in charge of the Jewish division of the national museum of Georgia in
Tiflis. He published important research in
Russian and Yiddish in the field of ethnography and bibliography in a number of
Soviet periodicals. Some of his writings
on Jews in Georgia, sent for publication in Yivo-bleter
(Pages for YIVO) in Vilna, were lost during the Nazi occupation. He died during the siege of Leningrad.
