YITSKHOK-ARN (IZYDOR, ISAAC) BERNFELD (October 21,
1854-June 2, 1930)
He was born in Tysmenytsia (Tyśmienica),
eastern Galicia, the older brother of Dr. Shimen Bernfeld. He was a teacher of Jewish religion in a
state school in Stryi (Stryj), Galicia.
He worked for the Polonization of Jews.
He edited the Hebrew section (Hamazkir [The scribe]) of the
Polish-Hebrew periodical Ojczyzna (Fatherland),
1881-1886; and he authored Hebrew-Polish dictionaries and a Polish grammar in
Yiddish.
