SONYE BERIK
She was born in Bialystok.
She studied at the University of Vilna and was the first to receive an
M.A. degree in Germanics. The work for
her diploma was a monograph entitled: Filologish-historishe baarbetung fun
der yidish-daytsher iberzetsung fun roman “ben hamelekh vehanazir” (A
philological-historical treatment of the Judeo-German translation of the novel,
“The Prince and the Nazirite”). This
work, prepared under the direction of Professor Franz Daubek, was concerned
with the well-known Munich manuscript “Codex 347,” which was one of the oldest
monuments of Yiddish literature. Her
thesis was also composed in Yiddish, and the manuscript was handed over to
YIVO. Her subsequent career remains
unknown.
