HIRSH-SHMARYE BELENKI (1878-May 20, 1920)
He was born in Vitebsk.
In his youth he took part in the Zionist movement, and later devoted
himself to the organization of workers’ cooperatives; and he wrote articles
for: Der yud (The Jew), Yidishe folks-tsaytung (Jewish people’s
newspaper), Froyen-velt (Women’s world), and Tog (Day) in St.
Petersburg, and he contributed to the Yiddish encyclopedia that Likht
Publishers in St. Petersburg brought out in 1904 in four volumes. He died in St. Petersburg.
