YANKEV (YAAKOV) BASMAN
He was a wedding entertainer in Warsaw, author of a rhyming eulogy
on the death of Moses Montefiore—“Der hesped fun moyshe montefyore” (Eulogy for
Moses Montefiore)—“published” by R. Yehuda Leyb Rozenblat (Warsaw, 1885), 20
pp. He may also have been the author of Lid
fun rabunek (Song of pillage), a rhyming reportage concerning a pogrom in
Warsaw in 1881, which due to censor’s markings came out in Lemberg.
