L. BALLAYZN (BALLEISEN)
He lived in New York at the beginning of the twentieth
century. He translated the following
works by August Strindberg: Di farbrekher (Criminals), 88 pp.; Der
toytn-tants (The dance of death) (1913), 79 pp.; Der vampire (The
vampire), 56 pp.; Farn toyt (Before death), 23 pp.; Der foter,
tragedye in dray aktn (The father, a tragedy in three acts) (1912), 93 pp.;
Muterlibe, a drame in eyn akt (Mother’s love, a drama in one act), 20
pp.; Kameradn, a drame in fir aktn (Comrades, a drama in four acts) (1912),
66 pp.; Di shtarkere (The stronger) (1912), 12 pp. All of these translations were published by
the publishing house of M. Yanovitsh in New York. His translation of Hermann Sudermann, Johannes
feyer, drame in fir aktn (Johannes Feyer, drama in four acts) was published
by “European Hebrew Publ.” in New York, 88 pp.
