AB. BORNSHTEYN (1871-1938)
Born in Zgierzh (Zgierz), near Lodz, into a Hassidic family,
he studied in religious high schools, and he was also self-taught. He married early and became a
manufacturer. He began to write in Hatsfira
(The siren). He wrote feature pieces and
sketches for Hatsfira, Haynt (Today), Lodzher tageblat
(Lodz daily news), and Nayer folksblat (New people’s news) in Lodz from
1910 until shortly before his death. He
also wrote under the pen names of Avner Shteyn, A. B., and Bar-nash, among others.
