MENASHE FRENKEL (1897-winter 1943)
He was
born in Volbrom (Wolbrom), Poland. He
was active in the pioneer movement and a cofounder of Hashomer (The guardian)
in Poland. Over the years 1921-1924, he
lived in the land of Israel, thereafter until 1930 in Lodz. From 1934 until roughly the beginning of
WWII, he was a Hebrew teacher and community leader in Sosnovits (Sosnowiec). He published poems, stories, and articles in:
Lodzher togblat (Lodz daily
newspaper), Nayer folksblat (New
people’s newspaper), Vezn (Being), Oyfgang (Arise), and Inzel (Island), among others, in Lodz; Inzer hofening (Our hope), Literarishe bleter (Literary leaves), Foroys (Onward), Folktsaytung (People’s newspaper), and Af der shvel (At the threshold), among others, in Warsaw; and Zaglembyer tsaytung (Zagłębie newspaper), Yung
zaglembye (Young Zagłębie), and Keltser-rodemer
tsaytung (Kielce-Radom newspaper), among others. In book form: Noveln (Stories) (Lodz, 1932), 64 pp. During the Nazi occupation, He was confined
in the Wolbrom ghetto. He was murdered
by the Nazis. His brother was the Hebrew
writer NATAN ḤOFSHI.
