HERTSL TSIZLER (1908-1942)
He was
born in Gline (Glina), Lemberg district, eastern Galicia. He studied in religious elementary school and
later was a pupil of Rabbi Meir Shapiro in the Lublin Yeshiva. Until WWII he was active in the Orthodox
youth movement. He served as secretary
of Tseire Agudat Yisrael (Agudat Yisrael youth) for eastern Galicia. He published stories of traditional Jewish
life in Galicia as well as articles, and the like, in the Orthodox Yugnt bleter (Youth pages) and Dos yudishe togblat (The Jewish daily
newspaper), as well as in Hebrew in Yavne,
Deglanu (Our banner), Darkhenu (Our pathway), and the like, in
Warsaw; Beys-yankev-zhurnal (Beys
Yankev journal) in Lodz; and in Sefer hayovel
likhvod harav meir shapiro (Jubilee volume in honor of Rabbi Meir Shapiro)
(Lublin). He also published memoirs of
life in the yeshiva. He was murdered
during the Holocaust in Poland. Some of
his stories were published in Hebrew in Udim
(Firebrands) 1 (Jerusalem, 1960), pp. 359-64.
