LEYZER TSUPERFAYN


LEYZER TSUPERFAYN (b. February 25, 1912)
            He was born in Kovel (Kovle), western Ukraine (formerly, Poland).  He studied in the Hebrew schools of his hometown and later at Cracow University.  He was active among the pioneers and in drama circles.  He wrote in both Yiddish and Hebrew about literature and the theater.  In 1933 he made aliya to the land of Israel.  There he changed his family name to Lioni and now wrote primarily in Hebrew.  He was employed in the Defense Ministry of the state of Israel.  He edited the remembrance volume for the Jews of Korets.  In Hebrew he wrote several volumes of theater criticism and novels.
