Y. FRIDMAN
He lived
for a time in Minsk. He was a member of
the Yiddish translation section of the Byelorussian state publishing
house. He published translations of
Russian and foreign-language fiction in the newspapers: Emes (Truth) in Moscow and Oktyabr
(October) in Minsk). From Russian he
translated (appearing in book form) the novels: Ramón José Sender, Magnet (Magnet [original: Imán]) (Minsk, 1935), 295 pp.; and
Vladimir Germanovich Lidin, Groyser oder
shtiler, roman (Big or quiet, a novel [original: Velikii ili tikhii]) (Minsk, 1936), 308 pp. He contributed work to the journals: Afn shprakhfront (On the language front)
(Kiev); and Di royte velt (The red
world) in Kharkov; among others. Since
1937 there has been no further information about him.
