SHIYE FRID (June 1908-mid-1945)
He was
born in Varklyen (Varakļāni), Latvia. He published stories in the daily Yiddish
press. He contributed to the Latvian
almanac, Riger shriftn (Riga
writings) (Riga: Skola, 1936), pp. 29-38.
During WWII he was confined in the Riga ghetto. His diary, which he kept in the ghetto over
the course of a short period of time, was discovered under the ruins of the
Riga ghetto. He died in Stutthof
Concentration Camp.
