DR. SHIYE FENSTERBLOY (1881-1942)
He was
born in Gorlits (Gorlice), western Galicia.
He came from a religious family. He
studied law at university and received his doctor of law degree. He was an active Bundist. In 1929 he was a candidate to the Polish
Sejm. During WWII, he organized underground
work in Cracow, and he contributed to the illegal bulletin of the Polska Partia Socjalistyczna (Polish Socialist Party, or P.P.S.) and to the illegal Yiddish
newspaper of the Częstochowa ghetto. In
late 1941 he was in the Warsaw Ghetto, working in a factory. He also wrote poetry, and several of his
poetic creations were published in underground Bundist publications. In 1942 he died in the gas chambers of Treblinka.
