L. GOTLIB (1892-November 1941)
He was born in Rovno, Volhynia, into
a well-to-do family. He received a
traditional Jewish education. He engaged
in business and was a Zionist community leader.
He was a founder of the Yiddish periodical press in Volhynia. In 1926 he edited (together with Y. Feygel)
the daily newspaper Rovner nayes (Rovno news), which he virtually filled
out alone. Over the years 1924-1926, he
was editor of the community literary publication Voliner vokh (Volhynia
week), in which he also published articles on Jewish issues and timely, local
matters. He was murdered by the Nazis,
together with the majority of Rovno’s Jews, during the Aktion in November 1941.
