GORMAYZE
He lived in the Kovno ghetto. He penned one poem: “Ikh hob mayn man
forloyrn” (I have lost my husband)—a poem about a woman whose father and mother
have been shot, and “I have lost my husband on the day of my child’s birth, the
child having barely seen the glow—from the womb into the grave.”

the ghettos and camps) (New York, 1948), pp. 76-77.
The melody given in Lider fun di getos un lagern is the Polish tango Sterce Matki (A Mama's Heart)music by Karasiński and Kataszek text by Szmaragd. If anyone has information about how this poem and melody were brought together, or any more information about Gormayze, I would be grateful to receive it. Jane Enkin silkenwine@gmail.com
