YANKEV BEYML (JACOB BEIMEL) (1880-November 17, 1944).
Born in Russia, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in
Berlin. He emigrated to the United
States in 1914. He was a cantor in New
York and Philadelphia. He wrote about
Jewish music in Hebrew, Yiddish, English, and German journals. He composed musical arrangements for Jewish
folksongs. Over the years 1934-1935 he
published and edited the quarterly Yidishe muzik (Jewish music) (only a
few issues came out) in which his work in Hebrew, Yiddish, and English
appeared. He died in New York.
