PINKHES ZONENBERG

PINKHES ZONENBERG (1892-summer 1942)
            He was born in Lodz, Poland, into a laboring family.  He studied in religious elementary school and in the Talmud Torah of R. Mayzil.  He worked for several years making stockings, later selling newspapers.  He published jokes and anecdotes in Lodzer tageblat (Lodz daily newspaper) (1913), later as well short feature pieces and humorous sketches.  From 1913 he published a variety of humorous pieces and Yontef bleter (Holiday sheets) which he wrote largely by himself.  He died of hunger in the Lodz ghetto.
