M. ZILBERMAN
The father of Yisroel Zilberman, he
hailed from Lithuania. He lived in
Kovno, Vilna, and Odessa. He authored
the textbook: Ershte unterrikht in der
frantseyzishn shprakhe (Initial lessons in the French language), two parts,
with a foreword in Hebrew. This book
(104 pp.) was published in Vilna-Grodno in 1836 and is considered the first
French textbook in the Yiddish language.
It contains twenty-three lessons of grammar, conversations, and a short Yiddish-French
dictionary.
