NOSN FODEMBERG (May 15, 1896-July 28, 1967))
He was born
in Sokolov-Podolsk (Sokołów Podlaski), Shedlets (Siedlce)
district, Poland. Until 1909 he studied
in religious elementary school, later becoming a laborer. He lived in Lublin and Warsaw and was active
in the Bund. From 1924 he was in the
United States. In 1928 he graduated from
the Jewish teachers’ seminary and for many years worked as a teacher in Jewish
supplementary schools in New York and elsewhere. He began writing essays on literature for Frayhayt (Freedom) in New York in 1930;
and he contributed to: Yidishe kultur
(Jewish culture) and Zamlungen (Collections),
among other serials, in New York; Kheshbn
(The score) in Los Angeles; and Yisroel-shtime
(Voice of Israel) in Tel Aviv. He
authored: Shafer un boyer, eseyen vegn
shrayber un bikher (Creators and builders, essays on writers and books)
(New York: IKUF, 1964), 239 pp. He died
in Los Angeles.
