MORTKHE YATKUNSKI

MORTKHE YATKUNSKI (1895-June 25, 1941)
            He was born in Slobodka, near Kovno (Kaunas), Lithuania.  He was a member of the Jewish national assembly in Lithuania (1923) and in charge of the Jewish National Fund in Kovno.  In 1919 he was a member of the editorial collective of Di idishe shtime (The Jewish voice) in Kovno, and until 1934 he served as an internal contributor to the newspaper.  Over the years 1934-1940, he contributed as well to Dos vort (The word) in Kovno.  He was killed during the German pogrom of Slobodka Jews.
