He hailed from Drazhne, Podolia,
Ukraine. He was the author of the
storybooks: R’ yoyzel mit der bord
(Rabbi Yoyzel with the beard), “a story that took place in Lithuania” (Vilna,
1879), 16 pp.; R’ yoysef loksh fun
drazhne in poyln (Rabbi Yoysef Loksh from Drazhne in Poland), “a story of
the great rabbi and sage, Rabbi Yoysef Loksh and of his trustee Akiva Bloz”
(Warsaw, 1882), 24 pp. The topic of
these stories was used by modern Yiddish writers, among them: Y. Y. Trunk in
his Khelemer mayses (Tales of Chełm).
