SHAYE ZARKIN (ZARḤI)

SHAYE ZARKIN (ZARḤI) (b. June 4, 1903)
            He was born in Vilkomir (Ukmergė), Lithuania.  He graduated from a Jewish high school in Vilkomir.  From 1920 he was living in Canada—Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.  He was active in leftist Jewish circles and wrote for their press outlets: Der kamf (The struggle), Der veg (The way), and Vokhnblat (Weekly newspaper)—all in Toronto; and other serials.  In book form: Zikhroynes, di arbeter-bavegung in lite un kanade (Memoirs, the labor movement in Lithuania and Canada), vol. 1 (“In der alter heym” [In the old country]) (Toronto: Vokhnblat, 1973), 181 pp.
