DOVID KATZ (b. May 9, 1956)
A philologist,
he was born in New York, the son of Menke Katz.
He attended the Yeshiva of Flatbush.
From 1974 he studied Yiddish philology at Columbia University and later
Aramaic and Syriac at the University of London.
He was a Yiddish lecturer at Oxford University. His doctoral dissertation was entitled Explorations in the History of the Semitic
Component in Yiddish (University of London, 1982). He has published scholarly work on Yiddish
philology, among others, Der semitisher kheylek
in yidish (The Semitic component in Yiddish) (London, 1979), 93 pp., and
many books in English.
