ITE (ITA) KALISH
(April 15, 1903-1994)
The daughter of a Hassidic rebbe, she
was born in Matshayevits (Maciejowice), Poland.
She studied with private tutors and later left for Warsaw. In 1923 she was studying German literature in
Berlin. From 1933 she was in
Israel. Her work includes: A rebeishe heym in amolikn poyln (A
rebbe’s home in Poland of the past) (Tel Aviv, 1964), 112 pp. In his introduction, Shloyme Bikl writes: “These
memoirs are simply a treasure trove for future historians of the last two
generations in Poland.” An enlarged
Hebrew translation by the author appeared in print in 1971.[1]
