SORE
PROVOTINER (1893-1948)
The wife of Arn Provotiner and
sister of Perets Hirshbeyn, she was born in Kleszczele,
Grodno district, Poland. In 1923 she
came to the United States and lived in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and for
a time in Calgary (Canada), where she was active in Jewish schools and Yiddish
theater. For many years she contributed
work to Kinder-zhurnal (Children’s
magazine) in New York, in which she published poetry, children’s stories, and
translations from Russian. She also
placed pieces in Dos idishe vort (The
Jewish word) in Winnipeg and elsewhere.
She died in Chicago.
