SOYFER
He was born in Khirov (Chyrow),
eastern Galicia, the son of the local rabbi.
He studied with his father and in the Pressburg yeshiva, and he received
rabbinical ordination. After marrying he
was a rabbinical judge and scribe of Torah scrolls, phylacteries, and mezuzot in Dobromil (Dobromyl’). He was the author of Sefer sipure yaakov (The book of Jacob stories), “beloved stories
and words of Torah by great sages,” 2 parts: (Husiatyn, 1904), 60 pp.; (Cracow,
1913), 60 pp.
