MENAKHEM ZAKALIK

MENAKHEM ZAKALIK (December 10, 1889-April 1980)
            He was born in Kotsk, Poland.  At age eleven he moved with his parents to Lukeve (Łuków), and at age sixteen they moved to Warsaw.  From 1934 he was living in Israel.  In 1915 he wrote up some images and human interest pieces for Haynt (Today) in Warsaw.  He later published stories in the Warsaw anthologies: Shturm (Storm) of 1917 and Naye himlen (New skies) of 1921, among others.  In 1948 he published in Di prese (The press) in Buenos Aires a novel entitled Oyfsnay (Afresh); several chapters were published in Arbeter tsaytung (Workers’ newspaper) in Lodz (1947).  He used such pen names as: Z. K. Lik, Emze, and ZET.  He died in Tel Aviv.
