LEYE
VATSHARZH-SHTSHERANSKI (1907-1942)
She was born in Zgerzh (Zgierz),
near Lodz, Poland, into a Hassidic family.
She graduated from the Beys-Yankev teachers’ seminary in Cracow, where
she later became a teacher herself. A
specialist in educational issues, over the course of many years she published
articles on education in: Beys yankev
zhurnal (Beys Yankev journal) in Lodz.
She also published poems there, as well as translations from Polish into
Yiddish. Until the summer of 1942 she
was confined in the Cracow ghetto and was later deported to the Plashov (Płaszów)
concentration camp where she died.
