SHIYE
KATZ (b. 1885)
He was born in Libave (Liepāja), Latvia. He was a prominent religious Zionist leader,
and at the same time well known as a follower of the Jewish Enlightenment and a
Yiddishist. He published poetry,
primarily on themes of Israel, and translations of old Hebrew lyrics in Frimorgn (Morning) in Riga. In book form: Shir hashirim, Shloymes lid fun di lider (Song of Songs: Solomon’s
Song of Songs), translated in the form of a dialogue (Libave, 1932), 31
pp. There has been no information about
him since WWII.
